HomeKit Beta

Hello tedee users,

We've been working hard on HomeKit integration. In the upcoming weeks we will release few beta versions for mobile and devices and we'll ask you for help. Please note that the "beta" versions may be unstable. By joining the testing program, you acknowledge that application may not match quality standards as a regular version does.

How to join for Android Beta

If you want to join the beta program please sign up for using this link or directly from Google Play app link.

You can leave the testing program any time using the same link and install the public version from store.

How to join for iOS Beta

You can join iOS beta using this public link.

In order to install the app, you will need to download and open TestFlight. Please follow the steps from the manual: https://testflight.apple.com/.

To leave testing program, you can delete yourself as a tester in the app’s Information page in TestFlight by tapping Stop Testing and install the public version from store.

Version 1.115.01 beta (iOS), 1.115.1.1 beta (Android)

This version introduce new way of discovering and connecting to tedee devices via Bluetooth that will be released later with a HomeKit firmware update. During this test we want to make sure that backward combability is working and users doesn't have issues with connecting to exiting devices via Bluetooth.

What to test:

  • Check if adding device process is working
  • Check if you can update device firmware from mobile
  • Check if you can unlock/lock the lock from phone/widget via Bluetooth
  • Check if Apple Watch is working

We already have tested this and everything worked fine. Please share your feedback under this post.

Hi Lars, thank you for your understanding and we appreciate your engagement. We are currently working on informing all users about HomeKit, unfortunately this will also take some time. The upcoming update will close the HomeKit feature for new devices. We are currently focusing on implementing HomeKit for existing devices and we have the firmware ready but we need to work out the SMALL details with Apple. Unfortunately, Apple during the holiday period is not very responsive so the whole process is prolonged.

Dear Konrad, I didn’t had the intention to criticise you. You are doing a great job here in this forum, but I think potential buyers and other users could need some kind of update. I know Apple isn’t easy …

Dear Lars,

I think we are more open and transparent than any other IoT company. We updated you with:

  1. Roadmap of when we expect to deliver the main features
  2. Exact steps and progress for main features like Homekit by updating forum post or social media
  3. We collect feedback and showing you the preview of feature (videos on forum and social media)
  4. We're informing you of the delays
  5. You can contact directly with external Testers of HomeKit via Twitter and we do not control this

So I think we are giving you a lot of information. We cannot give you exact date because in most cases:

  1. It depends of external parties (like Apple response time)
  2. We do not want to be fixed, we want to be well prepared for the release

As you can see above the public release is in progress and you will see it soon (few weeks), it will be connected with other announcements and this is why it is delayed. I can promise you that HomeKit will be delivered to all of you in this quarter. Thank you for your patience.

Well the new HomeKit feature isn’t communicated yet on your homepage for new locks and we don’t get a specific date for existing locks. It looks like you have problems with Apple’s requirements. For us users it would feel better to have more insight what you are struggling with and what the planning is and when. We do understand and accept more than you think at least from what I’ve seen and learned from other scenarios with a delay and other products (e.g. Apple Pay launch date, Game development). Maybe you can tell us a little bit more.

Hi Lars,

  • New Lock - locks manufactured after Apple certification with built in HomeKit support
  • Existing Lock - lock already manufactured before certification will not have built-in HomeKit but user can enable the HomeKit directly from the Tedee app

This division is enforced by Apple. From user perspective both locks will have the same features the only difference will be how user will add such lock to Home.

Dear Konrad, thank you for your quick reply and the update. I am a bit unsure what new lock and existing lock means. Can I setup my existing lock as new to get it to work with HomeKit? Are there two different hardware revisions with the same functionality and features? But why would Apple make a difference than. Hopefully Apple will be certifying the existing locks too. Could you please give us an update when this is finished? Kind regards Lars

Hi Lars,

I didn't post an update quite long, sorry for that, we were fully focused on HomeKit certification. So what is the plan. There will be two updates first for new Tedee Locks and this one is almost done. Because this update will be the biggest one and most difficult in our history, we just want to 'properly' celebrate this as a company :) Please follow us and soon you should see the public release.

The second update is for existing locks. Here we still waiting for certification. The firmware is almost the same but Apple has few additional constrains. Unfortunately it is taking little longer than we expected.

Dear Konrad, certification from Apple has been completed. When are you planning to release the firmware that enables us to integrate tedee to HomeKit? Please let us know the planning for the release.

Hey Lars,

it works well, and it works perfectly well on iOS 15 Beta version. It looks like Apple has improved Home App by far. We're close, very close... almost there :)

Best, Andrzej

Any news or problems with HomeKit?

Hi David,

I cannot find your request to join the Beta program, are you sure you filled the form? There is no request with csdb@mac.com email. All testers received confirmation email this Monday and the group is closed now, sorry. But do not wary, soon we will release preview version for our existing locks.

Hi  Konrad,

Are  you still going to send test units as it was previously arranged ?

Please note  I had some trouble with my previous username and password and I had to recreate a profile.

Can you please check if I am still enrolled in the Beta testing program  and in the test unit process ?

Thank you

David Bismuth

One could think that the certification comes from the TestFlight App as you couldn’t certify anything untested, but I think that refers to public betas only. Anyway please put me on the list of preview testers if that is okay for you.
