HomeKit Beta

Hello tedee users,

We've been working hard on HomeKit integration. In the upcoming weeks we will release few beta versions for mobile and devices and we'll ask you for help. Please note that the "beta" versions may be unstable. By joining the testing program, you acknowledge that application may not match quality standards as a regular version does.

How to join for Android Beta

If you want to join the beta program please sign up for using this link or directly from Google Play app link.

You can leave the testing program any time using the same link and install the public version from store.

How to join for iOS Beta

You can join iOS beta using this public link.

In order to install the app, you will need to download and open TestFlight. Please follow the steps from the manual: https://testflight.apple.com/.

To leave testing program, you can delete yourself as a tester in the app’s Information page in TestFlight by tapping Stop Testing and install the public version from store.

Version 1.115.01 beta (iOS), 1.115.1.1 beta (Android)

This version introduce new way of discovering and connecting to tedee devices via Bluetooth that will be released later with a HomeKit firmware update. During this test we want to make sure that backward combability is working and users doesn't have issues with connecting to exiting devices via Bluetooth.

What to test:

  • Check if adding device process is working
  • Check if you can update device firmware from mobile
  • Check if you can unlock/lock the lock from phone/widget via Bluetooth
  • Check if Apple Watch is working

We already have tested this and everything worked fine. Please share your feedback under this post.

Hi Lars,

Unfortunately Apple will not allow us to push anything to public beta (TestFlight) which contains logic for HomeKit without certification :( This is why we changed a little the testing process and there is no more public tests for existing locks.

After certification we still have plan to send the update first to preview testers.

Hi Konrad,

I second Lars' request for update.

Also, It would be nice to receive a reply to my message above ...

Best regards,

David

Great stuff. HomeKit for existing locks will push your product in the same class as competitors like nuki, but with the benefit of being better looking, quieter and faster. There will still be some that argue about the price, but there are competitors to iPhone and still the product tops android phones in many markets. I am using my Tedee lock since more than a year now with HomeKit (homebridge plugin) and it’s really an enhancement. Hopefully Apple will finish their audit soon. Can’t wait to see all users get their hand on this cool feature.

Thank you Konrad for the message and the HomeKit online guide.

We are excited this is finally coming true. Can't wait to add my Tedee Lock to the Apple Home app.

Dear Lars,

I think we are more open and transparent than any other IoT company. We updated you with:

  1. Roadmap of when we expect to deliver the main features
  2. Exact steps and progress for main features like Homekit by updating forum post or social media
  3. We collect feedback and showing you the preview of feature (videos on forum and social media)
  4. We're informing you of the delays
  5. You can contact directly with external Testers of HomeKit via Twitter and we do not control this

So I think we are giving you a lot of information. We cannot give you exact date because in most cases:

  1. It depends of external parties (like Apple response time)
  2. We do not want to be fixed, we want to be well prepared for the release

As you can see above the public release is in progress and you will see it soon (few weeks), it will be connected with other announcements and this is why it is delayed. I can promise you that HomeKit will be delivered to all of you in this quarter. Thank you for your patience.

Hi  Konrad,

Are  you still going to send test units as it was previously arranged ?

Please note  I had some trouble with my previous username and password and I had to recreate a profile.

Can you please check if I am still enrolled in the Beta testing program  and in the test unit process ?

Thank you

David Bismuth

Witam. Panie Konradzie zainstalowałem na iOS TestFlight oraz przystąpiłem do wersji Beta Tedee z podanego linku. Jak mam dodać zamek do aplikacji Dom ?

Hi Lars, thank you for your understanding and we appreciate your engagement. We are currently working on informing all users about HomeKit, unfortunately this will also take some time. The upcoming update will close the HomeKit feature for new devices. We are currently focusing on implementing HomeKit for existing devices and we have the firmware ready but we need to work out the SMALL details with Apple. Unfortunately, Apple during the holiday period is not very responsive so the whole process is prolonged.

Hi David,

I cannot find your request to join the Beta program, are you sure you filled the form? There is no request with csdb@mac.com email. All testers received confirmation email this Monday and the group is closed now, sorry. But do not wary, soon we will release preview version for our existing locks.

This version does not yet introduce HomeKit support so you can't use your lock from home app yet. But we made a lot changes that will make this possible in future, this changes are strictly connected with Bluetooth communication. Because of the amount of changes we want to make sure that this version is working correctly for our users on daily bases as well as it is working correctly with all our features that's requires Bluetooth communication such as WiFi configuration, firmware update or auto-unlock.

Hey Konrad, now I am using native HomeKit for some weeks and I need to say it’s slow and doesn’t work sometimes. The homebridge implementation was much faster. Attached a screenshot for you. Can provide logs. I am using the newest Tedee App Version and lock firmware.
Did a few more tests, removed the lock and added it again. Reaction is still slow and Siri requests is pretty much hit and miss most of the time. Moreover I don’t know how to pull the latch in the home App. If I ask Siri to open the door while it’s unlocked it pulls the latch but what if I cannot talk to Siri? These issues needs to be sorted out. In the meantime I switch back to the homebridge plugin.

Hi Lars, to pull the spring you can either double click on the lock icon or swipe the switch down and up with one move in the lock details view. As for HomeKit's response you described, that's the standard. How far is the lock from the hub and what hub do you use?

Thanks for the Tipp with the swiping. My hub is a HomePod and an AppleTV 4K as a backup, both on newest firmware. The lock and bridge are 3 meters away from both. Reaction is faster with homebridge and other native devices so that is not the standard it is your implementation. Please accept and fix
